Minutes for IFIS AGM 5/3/1998
- "Voyager" newsletters and "Rune With A View" handed out by Jon and Luke.
- Statements from the comittee:
- Luke (chair) mentionned fresher's fayre, Page's Bar trips, London shopping trips, video evenings every week, and how the library has openned even if only 6 people have used it so far...
- We have £56.55 theoric left, and £468.78 social fund.
- We still owe £50-odd for shelves, Rune With A View, and videos.
- Jon (Treasurer) told us we started the year with 50 members after fresher's fayre, and this rose to about 90 by the end of the year dues to extra membrs joining at video evenings, etc.
- Constitutional ammendment (proxy voting):
"Proxy voting rights for shall be granted to full members of the RHULSU Institute for Impure Science. The votes shall be written and placed in a sealed envelope to be given to the chairman prior to meeting."
It was generally agreed that "proxy voting" should also include "proxy nominations", and that if someone proxy-votes for someone who then doesn't stand, the vote should count as an abstention.
For: 11, Against: 1, Abstentions: 1 Motion clearly carried - Elections of new comittee:
"It has become traditional that Nick Waterman (myself) acts as returning officer", and nobody (even myself) seemed to want to object.- Chairman:
Asan, Luke, Steve Dismukes nominated. Asan elected by a large majority. - Treasurer:
Steve Dismukes, chris White, Luke nominated. Steve elected by a large majority. - Secretary:
Chris White, Andy Wren, Kevin, Luke, Lorna nominated. Chris White elected by a slight majority over Lorna. - Publicity Officer:
Chris Lyth, Lorna, Simon Richardson, James Hanley nominated. Chris Lyth elected by a large majority. - Librarian:
"Should we elect a librarian at all?"
Lorna nominated. Lorna elected almost unanimously.For: 7, Against: 4, Abstentions: 0 Motion carried

- Jenny is starting a local Egham Sci-Fi club. She's intending to go to a convention at heathrow on easter weekend. It's a Star Wars, Star Trek, and basically general sci-fi convention. Keep an eye on the mailing-lists.
- Various thanks were offered to Chris, Jenny, Jonathon, Nick, Kevin, and Luke, for all their hard work, etc.
- Retire to the pub.
- Here it was unanimously decided that Luke should be official IFIS euro-idiot for the next year.
