Nobody. The Union only introduced Life Memberships the year I left, which I
would personally hold responsible for planting the idea in people's heads
that they could carry on hanging about. There was also a sudden flurry of
people who left college and moved to the local area.

Surely Patric was around? He departed RHC in 1982, if I remember rightly,
and so would have been around in your day.

Patric must have been. He never went anywhere post RHBNC.

Jenny would have been too ? Derek ? and what years were Matt and Sue doing
their time at stalag holloway ?

My years (91 to 94, 91 to 93 overlapping with NickWa's) I can remember all
of the above plus the 2 of you plus some others being around ..... Danial
Celano and Chris H were both Physics postgrads at that time as was ...... oh
help me out here, quiet bloke ....... This'll bug me, have to go up to the
loft and dig the old RWAVs out.

In fact the only memory I have of my first IFIS meeting is discussing the
Prisoner with Simon....

<gasp> You're both right, well, sort-of.

I think I first encountered him at GAMESOC in '86. Then he kindof vanished
for a while, and came back later.
I do remember him helping me to move in '88.
I don't think he was around much though, during those early days of the IFIS
pub meet. (Which I think started in 87/88 and really took off in 88/89.)

Patric must have been. He never went anywhere post RHBNC.

He was certainly living in the area, but wasn't always around. I don't know
how I could have forgotten him.

Jenny would have been too ?

In the area, but not reconnected to IFIS until later, I think. Having been a
member in (guess) '85, I don't think she paid much attention to IFIS again
until she reappeared with SimonR later.

Derek ?

Naa.

and what years were Matt and Sue doing

I think Matt's first year was 88-89. Sue was a year ahead of him by the end
IIRC, although I think she did something strange in the middle, taking a
year out or something, so she probably left in '90.

Simon Barker?

Anyway - I was only (joint) secretary for about two terms, and I think it
was a quiet patch.

OK. Here's the abbreviated version.

Other than the obvious answer (which is "July 12th 19mumblemumble")
Simon first encountered IFIS when he came to visit an ex-girlfriend
at RHC in 1983. She was romantically linked with Patric at the time,
IIRC.

For those of you who were at our wedding, she was the one that some
mistook for Rachael's mother. That caused some amusement among
those that know her, especially as they do look vaguely similar.

I returned for a while in 1984 (it was better than dodging the SPG,
which was the fate in store for someone who lived as I did then in
a motorcaravan, and mixed with a certain anarchist set) and at that
time I became, well, romantically linked with Jenny. She had a
car accident sometime between my first and second arrival, and
basically took a year out of her degree course. When she came back,
she wasn't doing the IFIS thing anymore. She was mainly trying to
remember enough to get a degree.

Dominic I encountered via roleplaying games, probably introduced
to me by Patric, as I was running a game at the periphery of IFIS.
(As you might guess from something Gordan wrote yesterday, I still
am.)

Derek ?

Naa.

And Indeed the mysterious Derek who I can remember meeting a few times in

I heard from Derek recently. In a surprising piece of
poacher-turned-gamekeeper, he runs IT services for a local college.

Oddly, in all this stuff about people hanging around IFIS *after*
attending RHUL, I claim the distinction of being the only person
to hang around IFIS *before* attending RHUL. I went to RHUL to
get my degree (as what was laughingly called a "mature student")
in 1992.

I do so claim. Anyone know different?

Hahahaha, rolling round the floor laughing, pull the other one, it's got
bells on...........

Not as far as I remember. There have been a few other non RHUL/RHBNC
student hangers on over time that could subsequently make that claim.....

How about Colin - or had he some prior qualification before I turned up ?

Well, technically I'm hanging around IFIS before attending RHUL on the
grounds that I've not yet done so in any registered student type capacity,
being from *the other place*. Although you might have the distinction of
being one who can claim to have been around before attending RHUL, but who
did then go on to actually attend.

Bizarrely, I was put in touch with IFIS by somebody else who never actually
went to RHUL either.

Adrian, etc...

Simon Barker I remember well - he and I were both 82-85 and we were joint
custodians of the library in our final year. It had grown to two chests of
books and we were conveniently in adjacent rooms in Cameron so had one chest
each. As was the tradition at the time, the official Librarian was someone
who was out of hall and so could not look after the books (it may have been
Jennifer Bray that year).

Don't know what happened to him since.

Jenny was a year below us, and I remember her accident. Derek was either
there or out ahve failed a year during that time and Patric was, well,
Patricing around the fringes.

He did his phd and was last heard of living in St Leonards on Sea (Sussex).

I have some contact details for him (possibly about 5 years out of date) if
you email me privately and ask.

Daryl? Data Analysing Robot Youth Lifeform? :-)

I also remember "Big Nige" being around for quite a while after he left, I think?

Saw him a lot more recently at one of the killercon's too, and he's less than half the man he used to be. Almost failed to recognise him! :-)
