Stardates in the Star Trek universe work in an entirely different way. Wikipedia has a good explanation on how Stardates work.
This film is about a science fiction TV show called Galaxy Quest (a strong parody of Star Trek) that years after it was cancelled still retains a cult following. However its cast has had less luck having not found any new work since and have had to survive by cashing in on whatever work their fandom can provide. When they mistake a group of aliens for fans, they find themselves on a real spaceship in a deadly adventure that mimics their TV show escapades.
