A Policeman uncovers a key while working on a murder case. The key can open every door and take him into a motel room, but if you leave something in there that doesn't belong, it'll vanish when you leave.

He discovers that there are objects from the room, hidden around the world (or USA - silly Americans), that look ordinary but have special powers. When his daughter is lost inside the room he begins a quest to find a way to bring her back, working with uneasy alliances with mysterious groups and individuals who will do anything to gain the items of power.
