Monday's Voyager...

Hi,
I saw the latest Voyager, it started off well. But ended on
a classic Star Trek ending. These fall into three classes [1] Let's
use gizmo A combined with gizmo B to solve it. [2] It's all been
a misunderstanding. [3] One shot of our phasers will cure
all ills.
Monday's episone was a class [3] solution.

The aliens were nasty, but a bit thick. Their boarding policy was
some what hard to believe. The nastiest thing about them, was the
warning message that no-one could understand!

(It was still miles better that yesterdays Space A&B.)

More a case of class [1] and [3]. But at least they never talked there way
out of it or used serious technobabble to create a solution then talk there
way out of it. Janeway and crew too often uses the politically correct
solution combined with a trite moral message to solve all problems. Goes
like "Sorry Mr. Alien for annoying you so much. Why don't you kill me then
my advanced technology will revive me. That way everyone is happy and you
get your name" or "There's a runaway doomsday missile designed by one of
our crew coming at your planet, I know, we'll ram it to save you. The needs
of the many outway our needs to get home again." Whats wrong with simply
blowing the bad guys up occasionally.

This is where B5 scores in my view. At least when Sheridan decided to make
a point against the Shadows and Vorlons he done it with style, panache and
flair.

The aliens were nasty, but a bit thick.

The artificially stupid aliens with advanced technology, an ST speciality.
This is a standard plot in many stories though, not just ST. For once I
would like to see the aliens/bad guys out smart the humans/good guys all
the way. Anyone ever read Bug Wars by Robert Asprin, its the only story
where the protaganists are non-human and both sides are as bad as each
other.

Their boarding policy was

My ideal alien foe would be an Alien (sic) armed with Culture technology,
an IQ larger than that of a Parsnip and attack using legions at a time.

(It was still miles better that yesterdays Space A&B.)

I hate that series.
