FYI: Gosh Comics have moved
Just in case you guys hadn't heard, Gosh Comics (the one that was opposite
the British Museum) has moved to a larger place over in Soho. I briefly
popped my head through the door at the weekend and it's looking pretty good
in there.
It does mean that we no longer have a nice (almost) straight line of shops
to follow if we do a shopping trip next year, but a bit more exercise never
hurt anyone, right? :)

I did mean to post something on this! See

for more details.
There's four comic shops now and they are in a nice straight line .....
just a longer line running roughly along Shaftsbury Avenue:
A Place In Space (formerly Mighty World of Comicana) 237 Shaftesbury Avenue
Forbidden Planet on London 179 Shaftesbury Avenue
Orbital Comics 8 Great Newport Street
GOSH Comics 1 Berwick Street
(Do we need an updated Map & guide on the website Chris?)
I remember when everything was in or just round the corner from Denmark
Street in the days of FP1 & 2!
If you're doing a trip remember that Tottenham Court Road is out of
action so you'll probably have to start at Holborn and walk from there.

I've been trying to recall all the older comic/sci fi book stores we've
used that have closed/moved:
Forbidden Planet 1 on Denmark Street
Forbidden Planet 2 on St Giles High Street
Forbidden Planet Megastore on New Oxford Street (the above two combined)
Book Inn/Fantasy Inn on Charring Cross Road
Murder One on Charring Cross Road (somehwere in Soho)
Gosh (Great Russel Street)
Comic Showcase (Neal Street)
Orbital (Old Compton Street)
Orbital (Charring Cross Road)
Top 10 Comics (Messers Ross & Gambacinni's Comic Emporium, Soho: we
always got lost finding it)
There used to be a comic shop in the Virgin Megastore too at some point.
Further out At The Sign of the Dragon in Mortlake has been gone for a
few years now (Incidentally I recently heard that Marion Van Der Vroot,
who ran it and some of older members will recall, has died) and They
Walk Among Us in Richmond held 2 previous sites (the original one, then
the Spaced one in Union Court) before moving to the present one (Red
Lion Street, the Red Dwarf one) before being rebranded as Ace Comics.
One of the things I really miss are the old Central Hall Westminster
comic & collectors marts. They used to be a really good event. A quick
trawl of the Interweb reveals there is one planned for 4th September but
neglects to say where!

There's also one planned for a Sunday in October somewhere in central London
(again doesn't say exactly where yet)
What little details there are, are on

Maybe in Gosh's previous place that'd be true, but the Berwick street store
is quite a way off a straight line now with the others? The google map
linked to from
http://www.ifis.org.uk/resources/shops.shtml (which has a
HUGE and hideous URL) shows it as more of a triangle with FB lying in the
middle of one of the edges.

I've just made sure the map is up to date, including the name change for
Comicana, but if there's anything else wrong, let me know. Given that the
shops page is one of the most popular on the site, having really useful, up
to date information is a Good Idea(tm). And lots of (well written) reviews
wouldn't hurt either :)
