It's based on an early US science fiction show. The Robinson family aided by Joey from Friends set off on a 10 year journey to Alpha Prime to set up a hyperspace beacon (or some macguffin) to make it easier for people to escape a dying Earth. Except it all goes wrong and they end up lost in space. See how they cunningly got the name of the film like that?
