You'll have to get used to that sort of scariness. There is at least one
among
your number where I remember where I was at the exact moment of your
birth.
(I was standing around outside school, being bored, and thinking "this
being a
teenager doesn't feel any different." You know who you are.)
I've realised now that I'm older (I believe) than you were when we first
met. Very scary.
The joke runs "where have you been all my life?" - "School, mostly."
But I am younger than Doctor Who. We have only one among our
number who is old enough to remember the first Doctor Who.
Mr P Toms, currently wandering Europe I believe ..... I can say this safely
as he don't get Chat.
Do you want to admit it? Did you see the first episode?
Of course I saw it. Last Friday in fact ;-)
An Unearthly Child had a repeat showing in 81. Most of our students are
younger than that. None will now remember Tom Baker as Doctor Who. Some
may not remember new Doctor Who being on TV......
As a question to those following: What's your earliest sci fi memory - both
book or TV - and what (if anything) can you remember of Doctor Who ?
Mine is of seeing the Daleks blow a shed up, and seeing someone trapped in
a tunnel being chased by a sphere. I believe these to be from a Saturday
morning showing of Daleks Invasion of Earth - the film. The first thing I
can remember from the series is the Doctor and K9 in a tunnel. Since I
watched this with my cousins on bonfire night I've calculated that this is
from the Sunmakers.
I've also got an early Trek memory of people being turned into small
multisided structures made of powder and being crushed by a villain.
Book is a little more hazy - but I can recall getting Giant Robot from the
library aged 7...
